weather: Google may soon roll out Material You redesign for the Weather app on Android – Apps News

Google has been widely rolling out its Material You theme for several first-party apps. In 2021, the Weather on Android received a Google Material Theme redesign. Now, Google is reportedly testing another redesign for the app with Material You elements. Currently, Android’s Weather app (which is powered by the Google app) features three tabs at the top — Today, Tomorrow and 10 days. Users can scroll through the app for more information and each screen is designed to offer a detailed overview.

How the new Weather app on Android may look
According to a report by 9to5Google, an undisclosed Google employee has tweeted about the new changes in the Weather app. The report claims that the new design will take advantage of a single main feed. A pill-shaped search bar will be placed at the top of the app which will show the current location. The report also includes screenshots of the new design that shows the app in grey colour which will be aligned properly with the system’s dark theme.

As per the report, between the location search bar and the Froggy illustration, the app will have a “Now” section. This section will show details about the current temperature, condition, high/low, and how it feels like. Given the restricted width, the Froggy illustration is also lacking in detail, the report adds.

The redesigned app also has a scrollable “Hourly forecast” section along with a “10-day forecast” that includes the high/low temperatures. Users may be able to tap on each one of these options including “Today,” to see other stats like Wind, Sunrise and Sunset.

WhatsApp Android users to soon get this iOS feature

Recently, it was reported that WhatsApp may soon roll out a feature which will auto-play the GIFs shared by users. Now a new report has surfaced online revealing another upcoming feature of the popular messaging app. As reported by WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned platform may soon roll out a new feature which will highlight the missed call names in red within the calls tab.

Google Messages rolls out “Send photos faster” to more users

The Google Messages feature “Send photos faster” was introduced last month and is now being more widely released. The “Send photos faster” feature can be found as a new toggle in the settings menu of the Google Messages app. It is specifically labelled as “Send photos faster” and comes with the description “Resolution is reduced for faster sending.”

This design resembles the Wear OS Weather app which also looks quite organised. Google’s plan to move all this information into a single feed can turn out to be a helpful move and the company may also plan a large screen experience for the app as well.

To improve the experience on Google phones, a weather app made by the Pixel team can be a good option. The report also claims that the status bar shows that the new design might still be in development internally.
