How might Samsung’s rumored unethical techniques impact the broader semiconductor industry?

Samsung’s latest Exynos 2400 chip has been making extensive progress in development and is the company’s first venture at using the new 4nm process. However, reports have surfaced of Samsung using unethical ways to increase their yields on the development of the chip.

The Exynos 2400 was initially announced back in May and is the first Samsung-developed chipset to be produced using the 4nm process. According to the company, the new chip is supposed to be used in their upcoming foldable smartphones and other devices. The chip is said to be twice as powerful as the company’s earlier 8nm process.

In addition to the Exynos 2400 chip, Samsung has also developed the Exynos 3300 for its entry-level devices. This chip is built on the 6nm process and is expected to be the company’s highest performance processor on the market.

Although Samsung has already made significant progress on their 4nm process, recent reports have indicated that the company allegedly resorted to some unethical practices to increase the yield on their chip. It was reported that Samsung was able to increase the yields on the Exynos 2400 chips by tapping into the software code of Qualcomm-designed chips, as Qualcomm has already developed its 5nm process. According to the news, Samsung had access to Qualcomm’s source codes which allowed them to modify and improve their 4nm process chip.

Although Samsung denied the allegations and confirmed that they had only used their own set of software codes, they are still facing some serious backlash on their alleged unethical practices. Not only has this controversy cast a cloud over Samsung’s new chip, it has also brought some much-needed attention to the secretive semiconductor industry.

In any case, it is important to remember that the development of the Exynos 2400 may still take some time. Samsung has, however, stated that they will continue to make progress on the production of their 4nm process, as they are confident in their own capabilities.
