In the technology world, there has been a growing interest in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) devices over the past couple of years. Companies such as Microsoft, Facebook, and Apple have all been investing in creating new and innovative AR or VR experiences for customers. Most recently, it has been reported that Apple is developing a “budget-friendly” augmented reality headset that could cost as low as the price of a new iPhone.

The AR headset, codenamed ‘N301’ is said to be significantly cheaper than the Oculus Rift and HoloLens, both of which cost more than a thousand dollars. Apple’s headset would be lighter, smaller and simpler, allowing more people to experience immersive content such as virtual classrooms and recreational activities. It would also have a built-in processor and display and potentially run on its own operating system instead of the typical iOS or Android platforms. With the success of the AirPods, Apple is likely looking to make a consumer-friendly AR/VR product that could draw in more customers.

Then current prototypes are said to have adjustable lenses, cameras, and space arranged to accommodate various headsizes and headshapes. What makes this headset amazing is its versatility. It is designed to be used differently depending on the user’s needs. For instance, a user could use it for entertainment or education via interactive lessons or online classes. Furthermore, Apple’s headset would be able to map out a physical environment and make it easier to interact with our digital world.

Apple’s new headset is expected to come with a relatively low cost when compared to its competitors and is likely enabled by the company’s own technology and chips that would power the headset. It’s also believed Apple will develop its own App Store-like marketplace where developers can submit AR/VR applications and content.

It’s an exciting development in the world of AR/VR, and it looks like Apple’s “budget-friendly” headset may be an accessible way for the public to access a new, exciting level of gaming and entertainment. We’ll just have to wait and see what Apple has in store for us when the product is ready to go.
