Apple unlikely to launch next-generation iPhone SE in 2024: Report

Apple fans may have to wait for a while to get their hands on the next-generation iPhone SE. . According to a report by MacRumors, citing multiple conversations with companies within Apple’s supply chain companies in Asia, Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O’Malley Apple is unlikely to release a fourth-generation iPhone SE in 2024. In a research note, it was mentioned that iPhone SE was expected to feature an Apple-designed 5G modem, however, the plans appear to be delayed.

Earlier, it was reported that the Cupertino-based giant has been planning to build its own modem since 2018, and for this reason, Apple acquired the majority of Intel’s smartphone modem business in 2019 to bolster these efforts. The analyst further reported that Qualcomm could remain Apple’s modem supplier for both the iPhone SE and the next year’s iPhone 16 series, as it appears Apple’s modem is still in works.

Apple iPhone SE 4: What to expect
Noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had earlier claimed that the next iPhone SE would have a similar design to the standard iPhone 14 model released in 2022. This suggests that the rumoured device is likely to sport a 6.1-inch OLED display and Face ID. Kuo, on the contrary, had suggested that the next iPhone SE could come equipped with Apple’s own modem and not with Qualcomm’s. As of now, these are still rumours and it remains to be seen what Apple’s plans for its ‘affordable’ variant of the iPhone are.

The current generation iPhone SE model was launched in March 2022. It features a 4.7-inch LCD panel, an A15 Bionic chip, a 12MP rear camera, Touch ID and 5G connectivity. The SE model is priced starting at Rs 49,900, and continues to be available for purchase.
