What performance improvements can users expect with the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U 8-Core Phoenix CPU?

The AMD Ryzen 7 7840U 8-core Phoenix processor has been leaked, and its benchmarks are nothing short of remarkable. Considering the 28-watt TDP of the chip, it is definitely one of the most exciting developments in the mobile-processing space.

Performance-wise, the chip measures up against Intel’s 6980HX processor, the i7-9700K, and the Core i7-10610U. It boasts a 4.6GHz base clock speed with a boost of 5.0GHz. To put this into perspective, the i7-10610U has a base frequency of 3.9GHz and maxes out at 4.6GHz.

In terms of benchmark scores, the Ryzen 7 7840U scored 465 in Cine Bench R20, 694 in Geekbench 5, and 8182 points in PCMark 10. To provide some context, the 6980HX scored 470 in Cine Bench, 850 in Geekbench 5, and 9859 points in PCMark 10. These scores clearly demonstrate that AMD’s new processor is significantly faster than Intel’s current flagship mobile processor.

When it comes to gaming, the Ryzen 7 7840U is quite capable. The processor was able to achieve 61fps in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, 100fps in Wolfenstein II, and even 154fps in Rocket League. These results are more than enough for most gamers, and it’s a nice bonus to have such performance at 28W TDP.

The Ryzen 7 7840U is definitely an impressive processor that offers excellent multi-threaded performance in a low-TDP package. Not only is it faster than Intel’s current-gen 6980HX processor, but it also has a significantly lower TDP than Intel’s flagship. This makes it an ideal choice for thin-and-light laptops and other high-performance mobile applications. It remains to be seen if AMD will be able to capture market share from Intel, but the Ryzen 7 7840U is certainly a promising start.
