How soon is the Galaxy S24 expected to launch?

The rumors are true. Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S24 lineup is said to be sticking to Snapdragon-only SoCs, but Samsung is apparently still working on creating an Exynos SoC for the device nonetheless.

This would be a major deviation from Samsung’s previous policy as the Galaxy S flagship lineup has traditionally been powered by a combination of Samsung’s proprietary Exynos chipset and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon series. However, claims have surfaced that the Galaxy S24 lineup will only include the Snapdragon 888 SoC, with its own Exynos chip in development and likely to be included in subsequent devices within the same lineup.

The benefits of Snapdragon-only launches are in the superior performance. Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888 has a significantly higher single-core performance compared to Samsung’s Exynos 2100, making it a better choice for most tasks and applications. In addition, Snapdragon-powered devices are able to partake in more easily in 5G technology, while Exynos SoCs are currently not completely compatible with 5G technology.

That being said, there will still be drawbacks to sticking solely to Snapdragon in the Galaxy S24 lineup. First, most Snapdragon-powered devices tend to be more expensive than their Exynos counterparts, so consumers looking to save money would be better served with the latter in terms of pricing. Secondly, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoCs are still relatively newborn when compared to Exynos, meaning that it still has a long way to go in terms of optimization, app compatibility, and stability.

It remains to be seen if Samsung’s decision to drop Exynos from its Galaxy S24 lineup will pay off in the end. However, it is still reassuring that the company remains committed to its Exynos SoC development, and even with this gamble, it looks like its there’s still room for the brand in Samsung’s future devices.
