The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Patch 4.01 PC Comparison Videos Highlight Disappointing Performance And More

patch improved
The release of the new patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt 4.01 – along with accompanying next-gen console versions – has been met with a mixed response from fans. Many had hoped for improved performance on the PC platform, with some touting the offering as a more attractive alternative to the console versions. However, comparisons between the new patch 4.01 and the base game have highlighted a rather disappointing reality – a lack of performance improvements and a general lack of content.

Performance comparisons between The Witcher 3 patch 4.01 and the base version are largely underwhelming. While the patch boasts improved graphical fidelity, improved draw distance, and improved foliage and water density, the extra strain on hardware (especially on lower tiers) causes a noticeable decline in framerates, resulting in a poorer overall experience. Additionally, certain effects, like HDR, don’t seem to be implemented properly, resulting in highlights becoming washed out and blacks becoming too dark.

When it comes to new content, such as weapons and armor, the patch offers very little. Several pieces of armor have been introduced, such as the Black Marker Armor, but all of the new items lack originality and feel as though they have been taken straight from the base game. Additionally, no new weapons have been added, meaning that players are still limited to the same variety that the base game offers.

Perhaps the most disappointing aspect of the patch, however, is its lack of polish. Numerous bugs and glitches remain, and players have pointed out that some of the most annoying problems from the original version are still present. Additionally, some of the changes made to the game are rather confusing, particularly the decision to not include the “Inventory Update” patch, thereby making it impossible to manage certain items.

Overall, the Witcher 3 patch 4.01 and its associated next-gen console versions were met with high hopes that were unfortunately not met. PC performance upgrades were largely lackluster, the content additions were uninspiring and limited, and bug fixes were inadequate. The patch may still provide some marginal improvements, but those improvements are not significant enough to warrant an upgrade over the base game.
