The technology sector is abuzz with news that Intel’s upcoming Xeon CPUs are set to be released in 2024, with impressive figures of as many as 334+ cores for their Sierra Forest series, and up to 132 for the Granite Rapids-SP, and 86 for their Granite Rapids-WS series.

This is particularly noteworthy given the performance of Intel’s current-gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors (Xeons) line-up which includes up to 28 physical cores in its Platinum 9200 series. The upcoming Xeon CPUs are going to offer a huge jump in performance that could revolutionize the computing power available to both personal users and enterprise customers.

It’s rumoured that the Sierra Forest CPU will use Intel’s second-generation of 10 nanmetre scale dual-core technology (10nm SuperFin). While the smaller scale process node is exciting, it’s the number of cores that will turn heads. With Intel aiming for an impressive 334+ physical cores, it means that much more can be done with the same amount of computing power than ever before.

Not to be outdone, the Granite Rapids-SP and Granite Rapids-WS CPUs also feature impressive figures with up to 132 and 86 cores respectively. Rumours suggest that the Granite Rapids-SP may also make use of Intel’s Optane persistent memory technology, allowing data to be stored close to the CPU and removed from system memory. This could lead to potentially even more performance.

Overall, the news of Intel’s upcoming Xeon CPUs with staggering amounts of cores is certainly exciting for both consumers and enterprise customers alike. With multi-threading and the use of Intel’s Optane memory, users can expect to see huge improvements in their performance.

Whether these rumours turn out to be true remains to be seen. However, tech insiders are certainly excited by the prospect of these new CPUs arriving on the market in 2024. If these rumours are true, then computing power may get a huge boost in the next few years.
