On Wednesday, March 31, 2021, Google dropped a bombshell. They announced that Stadia, the video game streaming service, will shut down on April 19, 2021. However, ahead of this shut down, Google also released a new update for Stadia’s controller.

Google added Bluetooth support to the controller on the same day that it announced the closure of their gaming service. The Stadia Controller uses WiFi and Bluetooth to connect to a device and stream video games directly to a TV or computer. The controller is designed to be comfortable and responsive to the user’s input.

The new update brings Bluetooth support to the Stadia Controller, allowing it to be used with upgraded TVs. This updated controller will be able to connect with supported TVs and display the Stadia games. Additionally, the controller can also be used for other applications such as VR and augmented reality.

The updated controller also offers a few extra features. The controller now allows users to adjust the trigger and thumbstick sensitivities through the Stadia app. The app also now lets users change the color scheme of their controller and even add their own custom profile to it.

It’s unclear why Google chose to update their Stadia Controller on the same day they announced their service’s shutdown. Perhaps it was meant as a way to show that they still care about their users’ gaming experience, even if they’re not actively supporting their service.

The Stadia Controller’s Bluetooth update is a bittersweet goodbye to the Stadia service. The update lets users continue to enjoy the controller they’ve grown used to, even after the service has been shut down. It remains to be seen if other video game streaming services decide to incorporate the updated controller into their platform.
