 AMD Issues SMU Fix For Core-Disabling AGESA 1.0.0.4 Firmware, New BIOS Available By MSI

The latest update in the world of technology is good news for AMD users: the company has issued a fix for a Core-Disabling firmware – AGESA 1.0.0.4. In response to the reports of users having trouble with the Ryzen 3000 series chips, the company released a new version of the AGESA microcode.

The issue at hand was that a number of users were unable to access the power management functions of the Zen 2-based Ryzen 3000 series chips. This in turn was disabling some cores and threads which resulted in significant performance losses.

With the fix now available, the extended family of MSI motherboards, in particular, are out with a slew of BIOS updates that apply the fix to resolve this issue. Notably, an entire list of 16 motherboards spanning ATX, Mini-ITX and Micro-ATX form factored board based on AMD 300, 400, 500 chipsets are now upgraded.

The list of boards affeced included models such as MEG X570 Unify; MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon; MPG X570 Gaming Edge WIFI; MEG X570 ACE; MPG X570 Gaming Plus WIFI; X570-A PRO; MPG X570 Gaming Plus; X570-PRO; MPG X570 Gaming Carbon WIFI; MAG X570 Tomahawk WIFI; MAG X570 Tomahawk; MAG X570M Pro4; X570-A WIFI; B450M Mortar MAX; B450M Pro4 and B450M Steel Legend.

The company has assured users of the immediate fix to AMD’s Core-Disabling firmware Ryzen 3000 CPUs. Users of the relevant platforms are required to update the BIOS versions as well as upgrade SMU Firmware in order to avail themselves of the fix and gain the full potential of their systems.

Once the slew of BIOS updates is installed, users with the affected MSI motherboards will have access to the Integrated Fingementprint Reader (IFR) feature. In addition, the firmware update also installs other fixes for memory related and Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) features.

The company stated that the fix has been enchanced with SMU Firmware support to further rectify the Core-Disabling AGESA 1.0.0.4 firmware issue experienced on the Ryzen 3000 CPUs. If users have attached a MSI motherboard to their system, they are strongly recommended to update the BIOS versions to rectify the issue and enjoy an optimal experience.
