AMD Radeon RX 6000 GPUs Mysteriously Start Dying, German Repair Shop Receives 48 Cards With Cracked Chips

AMD recently has been facing complaints of its recently launched Radeon RX 6000 GPUs failing to work properly. A German repair shop, Caseking, has received 48 cards directly from AMD containing cracked chips, leaving some people to speculate that there may be a more widespread problem across a wide range of graphics cards.

The reports surfaced after the shop posted a tweet that they had received 48 cards with broken chips, indicating that something could be affecting the entire range of the 6000-series cards. The tweet also suggested that AMD was itself reaching out to them to replace the broken GPUs as a warranty policy.

While it is unclear precisely what is causing the GPUs to fail, it is possible that the chips may have been damaged in the manufacturing process, as the cards did appear to have factory-sealed packages. However, some have speculated that perhaps a ‘thermal throttling feature’ on the cards, designed to reduce the power consumption and increase the longevity of the card, is causing some components to overheat and become damaged.

Whatever the cause, it is certainly a worrying situation for the many people who have recently purchased the Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs and are now wondering whether or not their card might be affected. AMD has yet to issue an official statement or an explanation as to what is causing the cards to fail, leaving many customers feeling somewhat frustrated and uncertain about the future of their purchase.

For its part, Caseking tweeted that they were working with AMD to resolve the issue, though it is unknown if the company will extend their warranty policy to those who have purchased a potentially faulty GPU.

The issue of some AMD Radeon RX 6000 GPUs dying before their expected lifespan is one that continues to perplex and worry many computer enthusiasts, and until AMD provide some kind of resolution, it is difficult to speculate on what could be causing the problem. In the meantime, customers should keep their eyes open for any official updates from AMD, in case the company do decide to expand their warranty coverage to affected customers.
