A lot of gamers have recently become aware that the new DualSense Edge Deluxe Controller from Sony has a shorter battery life than the original model. This news has been met with a lot of disappointment from gamers, who are already accustomed to the long battery life of the original DualSense Controller.

The DualSense Edge Deluxe Controller was released by Sony in late 2021, boasting some improved features such as its ability to connect to headset audio, offer a longer wireless range, and its two peripheral environment-sensitive pads. However, the battery life for the Deluxe version is only around 15 hours, whereas the original DualSense controller was rated for around 30 hours of wireless gameplay.

So why has Sony made the decision to reduce the battery life of the controller? Some believe that it may be because of the extra features and components present in the Deluxe version. According to Sony, the controller has more than double the amount of circuitry, which could have an impact on its battery life. Additionally, the use of Bluetooth Low Energy also contributes to reduced battery life, as it relies on more power to transmit data between devices.

Sony has defended its decision by saying that the shorter battery life should not be seen as a negative. The company noted that it expects most people to charge their controllers every night – in line with their gaming habits – and that this should still give them enough juice for a full session. Additionally, Sony has claimed that the extra features of the Deluxe controller should make up for the shortened battery life.

Despite Sony’s attempts to justify its decision, many gamers are still frustrated by the reduced battery life of the new controller. Many feel that it undermines the convenience aspect of the controller, as gamers now have to remember to charge their controllers every night. Furthermore, some gamers have also noted that for an expensive peripheral like the DualSense Edge Deluxe, one should not have to fear battery life concerns in order to utilise the features of the product.

Ultimately, while the DualSense Edge Deluxe is a great controller, many are disappointed by the shorter battery life compared to the previous model. Sony will have to work hard to convince gamers that the reduced battery life should not be a concern, and that the extra features make up for the difference.
