Graphics card maker NVIDIA has recently released a statement regarding their Game Ready Driver Releases, saying that they “do not crowd-source driver QA testing with public betas, we do it ourselves.”

With the ever-increasing graphics capabilities and demands of modern gaming, gamers have come to expect the driver updates from NVIDIA to be bug-free, reliable and stable. To ensure this, the company states that they use their own proprietary internal methodologies, hardware, environments and workflows when testing their drivers. This includes both manual and automated stress-testing to grade the stability and performance.

Unlike other companies, such as AMD and Intel, NVIDIA refrains from crowdsourcing driver QA testing. NVIDIA believes that releasing public betas would expose their drivers to a wider variety of environments, hardware, and user configurations, which can ultimately lead to unforeseen problems.

With more than a third of gamers around the world now using mostly NVIDIA GPUs, the company places a priority on its gaming driver releases, often releasing new Game Ready Drivers ahead of certain major gaming releases or updates. This is especially critical for PC gamers since release day bugs can significantly detract from the experience.

Nvidia holds the view that public betas would not address the long-term issue but suggest that it would lead to a race to eliminate the most reported bugs, often at the expense of quality. The company instead wants to focus on ensuring the highest possible stability and performance in the long run. Acknowledging the fact that driver bugs occur at times, NVIDIA promises to do their best to address the issues soon after first reports are received and to keep gamers up to date on their progress.

Overall, with this statement, NVIDIA wants to make clear that they believe the reliability and quality of their gaming drivers are of utmost importance. The company is not expecting gamers to conduct the driver QA testing with public betas, but rather will put the pressure on themselves to provide the highest possible gaming experience with great performance and reliability.
