Need for Speed Unbound Rez a Bit Higher on Xbox Series X, but PS5 Has the Performance Edge

Speed Series

In the gaming world, there has been much debate over which console is better: Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5. Those who are into racing games, particularly “Need for Speed Unbound”, have been most vocal of the two. The latest installment of the series, Need for Speed Unbound, was criticized for running poorly on the Xbox Series X, while the PlayStation 5 has seen a much better performance.

The two consoles have their own set of specs and should be analyzed separately. First up is the Xbox Series X, which sports a custom AMD Zen 2 architecture-based octa-core processor with 12 teraflops of GPU power. The extra power allows the Xbox to render games in higher resolution and frame-rates than last generation, with no screen-tearing, often reaching up to 4K resolution.

However, when it came to Need for Speed Unbound, the Xbox Series X struggled to keep a consistent frame-rate or resolution. Reports of the game suffering from stuttering, causing it to run at sub-30 framerates, have been reported. It’s puzzling to see the game running at a lower fidelity than it could have on the Xbox, as the specs of the console are more than capable of running the game at a higher quality.

On the other hand, the PlayStation 5, with its faster 8-core AMD Zen 2 CPU and 10.28 teraflop GPU, has seen a much better performance with Need for Speed Unbound. The game has run at 4K resolution and a consistent framerate on the PS5, with no stuttering or lag. This is due to the PS5’s supersampling technology, which lowers the game’s resolution, but boosts the framerate.

This clear advantage in performance should give the PS5 the edge in the console debate, at least when it comes to Need for Speed Unbound. Although the Xbox Series X is still a powerful console, the PS5’s technology has given it an undeniable advantage in performance. Until the Xbox Series X can provide a consistent, high-resolution experience with the game, it could be hard to argue that its superior specs are enough to make it a better choice for Need for Speed Unbound.
